Home & Quick Look

The Home screen and inspecting clothing without creating a project

Introduction

Durty Cloth Tool opens on Home. It is the starting point for everything, and it also lets you inspect a clothing file without committing to a project at all.

Starting points

Home brings together:

It is also a drop target. Drop a .ydd, .ytd or .yld file on it, in either the native binary format or CodeWalker XML, and DCT opens it in Quick Look.

Closing a project

Choose Project > Close project or press Ctrl+Shift+W to return to Home and Quick Look without exiting Durty Cloth Tool. If you have unsaved changes, you can save them, close without saving, or cancel and keep working. Your saved project stays in Recent projects.

Removing a recent project

A recent entry can be removed from Home or from Project > Recent Projects. Both lists update together.

Removing a recent entry only removes the shortcut inside DCT. Your project file and its data are not touched, and opening the project again puts it back in the list.

Quick Look

Quick Look shows you what is actually in a clothing file:

  • Model facts, including geometry and vertex counts

  • LOD levels present

  • Texture facts

  • Cloth physics facts when a .yld is involved

  • The garment itself in 3D

Press Ctrl+Q to open Quick Look from inside the editor. Your open project stays loaded.

Continuing from Quick Look

From Quick Look you can:

  • Continue into the on ped preview, which does need a GTA V installation. See 3D Previewing Clothes.

  • Continue into a temporary analysis workspace, where you can work on the files properly.

The analysis workspace copies the files it works on, so the file you inspected is left untouched. When you save for the first time, DCT asks for a name and a location and turns that workspace into a normal Durty Cloth Project in one transaction.

Project > New works the same way. There is no setup wizard to get through first: you land in a workspace immediately, and DCT collects the project name, folder and file when you first save or build.
